TECT Park - Bikes, Cameras, Action! |
|
WEDNESDAY 16 MAY 2012 WE NEED RIDERS & FAMILIES TO APPEAR IN THE TECT PARK PROMO
We have had confirmation that the TECT Park Management have got a TV crew coming in to film mountain biking, etc, up at the park on the Tuesday 29th May. It will start at 1pm and be over by 2-2.30pm. We will need to have a least 6 bikers up there to film as they are bringing in a helicopter. Basically they want some families riding the trials and the pump track. Then they want a group to ride down from the repeater a couple of times while the helicopter films as well as some shots down the new switch backs in the TBC trail. I will be able to bring my family up, but its a cool chance for you/you family to get filmed doing what you love, along with possibly shuttling back to the top.
Cheers, Marty |

Summerhill working bees & message for all night riders |
|

THURSDAY 10 MAY 2012 GET UP TO SUMMERHILL FOR A WORKING BEE & GIVE SOMETHING BACK
Summerhill wish to convey huge thanks to MTB TGA members Graham Muggridge, Matt & Sarah Backler, Simon Gibb and “El Presidente”, Damian Pootjes for help at the April Summerhill working bee. The Mojo Link is looking quite a bit tidier, but plenty of work still to go.
Summerhill have requested that ALL NIGHT RIDERS (whether you are a MTB TGA club member or not) riding up at Summerhill throughout the winter to please register as a Friend of Summerhill. This is for rider safety, and updates will be sent out to those people regarding activity that riders need to be aware of. For details of how to do this is please see this link.
Please also mark down the 27th May on the calendar for the next Summerhill working bee.
Thanks Karl.
Regular working bees are held on the last Sunday of every month but there is always work to be done at Summerhill. If you are keen, or for more info, call Karl Young on 07 542 1838, email

Recyclng Discarded Kiwifruit Pergola Structures |
|
WEDNESDAY 2 MAY 2012 RECYCLING A WIN-WIN FOR MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB AND ORCHARDISTS
Mountain bike Tauranga Inc is looking for timber to build structures for mountain biking. With many orchardists converting kiwifruit blocks to new varieties over the winter the club is keen to pick up any tanalised timber pergola structures that orchardists are replacing. ‘We can use your old pergolas to build decking for bike bridges and boardwalks’ says outgoing Mountain Bike Tauranga Inc club chairman Matt Williams. ‘If you are removing or replacing your orchards timber pergola structures during the winter and have it stacked up on a load pad somewhere we will come and remove it for you. We can use 1000’s of lineal metres of the timber but have always been unable to source it due to cost, we see this as a win-win situation where we can recycle a product that would otherwise be thrown away and also help orchardists as they fight back from PSA.’
Mountain bike Tauranga Inc is actively involved in the Western Bay of Plenty area developing trails and bike parks, these include the TECT All terrain Park at the top of Te Matai road, Summerhill trails on Reid road up on the Papamoa hills and Oropi mtb trails on Oropi road. ‘We also provide summer racing, group rides out of the district and teams for events like the 12 hour Moonride coming up. We are really keen to have new members and you can join here’ says Matt.
If you have timber to be removed or want to ask questions please contact Martyn Robinson on 0297709874. |
